Are you an influential leader?
How often do we get caught up in titles and positions, failing to realize that respect and leadership are earned? Are you walking around trying to understand why you aren’t influencing your organization as much as you’d like to? I remember working with a very intelligent, money successful Vice President of a small company who just couldn’t understand why, “As the VICE PRESIDENT of the company”, others appeared to disregard him altogether! He was second in command…and considered an important part of the leadership team. That had to count for something?
John Maxwell says in his book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, “everything rises and falls on leadership!” He goes on to mention, “The proof of leadership is found in the followers.” Specifically about the title of leader, John says, ” If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.” There are ways to gain respect and become a stronger and more influential leader.
